On Friday, November 20, 2026, MODULAR5 is at the PTC/User Benelux Event at the High Tech Campus Conference Center in Eindhoven: a full day of talks by experienced users, customer use cases, best practices and product updates. We would love to see you there. Come by booth N for a chat and join the presentation by Thijs Schepman.

What we learned about modularization

Thijs speaks from 12:10 to 12:55 in room Curie. His session is called What We Learned About Modularisation, After Doing It for Real.

We have been working with complex products and modularization for many years, in projects across engineering, product management, processes and digitalization. In this session Thijs shares the key lessons from that work: where our assumptions changed, which approaches worked better than expected and which common pitfalls can slow down a modularization journey.

He covers product architecture, requirements and functions, managing variation, defining modules and interfaces, organizational ownership, engineering processes and the role of PLM, CAD and ERP. He also explains why technology alone cannot create a modular product and why successful modularization starts with understanding the product and the value of variation.

Modularization is not about reducing customer choice. It is about controlling complexity behind the customer choice.
